CITY2 made it 11 games unbeaten on Wednesday night, defeating Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 4-2 in Burnaby, BC. Mykhi Joyner opened the scoring in the 29th minute, tallying his 12th goal of the season from the penalty spot. Vancouver tied the match in first half stoppage time, but one minute later Cam Cilley put CITY2 up 2-1 going into halftime. Entering the second half, Brendan McSorley scored his seventh goal of the season to give CITY2 the 3-1 lead. Whitecaps FC 2 added another goal but Emil Jääskeläinen put the game to bed in the 86th minute, securing the three points for St Louis.

Wednesday was a big night for CITY2’s goal scorers with Joyner now tied for second in goals scored in MLS NEXT Pro with 12. Cilley has now scored in back-to-back matches for CITY2, alongside McSorley, who is second on the team in scoring. Jääskeläinen’s goal was his sixth of the season.

During this streak, the squad has picked up 32 out of a possible 33 points. Wednesday’s win was the team’s 14th win of the season and seventh on the road. Interim head coach John Hackworth has not lost a match since taking over on June 4. Hackworth was most recently named as MLS NEXT Pro’s Coach of the Month for July.

St Louis faced Colorado Rapids 2 twice this season, falling 1-0 in April at home and earning a stunning 3-2 comeback win in June in Denver. Rapids 2 sit in third place in the Western Conference with 35 points and a 10-6-4 record. Colorado holds the exact same record on the road and at home (5-3-2).
