CITY SC starts its journey to bring an 11th Open Cup championship to St. Louis on Wednesday, May 7

The excitement of knockout soccer will again return to St. Louis as CITY SC looks to bring an 11th U.S. Open Cup championship to America’s First Soccer CITY. One of the most historic soccer competitions in the world is returning to Energizer Park with CITY SC playing Union Omaha in the round of 32 of the 2025 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday, May 7 at 7 PM CT.

A tournament steeped in tradition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing soccer competition in the United States and one of the most democratic in global sport, giving clubs from every level of the American soccer ecosystem a shot at national glory. For CITY SC, it’s not only a chance to compete for silverware, but to represent St. Louis on a national stage.

“Given the incredible history of the Open Cup in St. Louis, we know it is an important competition for our fans. And it is extremely important to our players too,” said Lutz Pfannenstiel, St. Louis CITY SC’s sporting director. “Tournaments give us the chance to win trophies and showcase the team outside of regular league play. A deep run is something we’d love to be able to give our fans, both old and new.”

Entering its third season in Major League Soccer, CITY SC continues to build on its identity as a team fueled by community, intensity, and purpose. Hosting an Open Cup fixture in front of the CITY faithful offers a defining and powerful moment — where knockout drama meets home-pitched pride.

Union Omaha, of the third division USL League 1, was one of four third-division clubs to knock off a second-division USL Champions squad and advance to the round of 32. The winner of the CITY SC-Union Omaha match at Energizer Park will face either Major League Soccer’s Minnesota United or Louisville City of the USL Championship. Omaha, which defeated San Antonio 1-0 to advance to the round of 32, has nine wins, three losses and two draws in Open Cup history and is currently 1-2 in League 1 play this season.

CITY SC made its U.S. Open Cup debut against Union Omaha in 2023, delivering a commanding 5-1 victory at Energizer Park in front of a sold-out stadium, which was a record-setting crowd for a Third Round Open Cup match. Now, fans will once again have the opportunity to witness the thrill of sudden-death soccer in one of the country’s premier venues. Known for its sold-out energy and fan-driven spirit, Energizer Park will serve as the ultimate stage for this nationally significant tournament clash.

General admission tickets for the match are on sale now at www.seatgeek.com and www.stlcitysc.com. Fans can expect a dynamic matchday experience at Energizer Park, with special activations and in-stadium programming celebrating CITY SC’s role in the broader U.S. soccer landscape — and the unique energy of knockout competition under the lights.
