St Louis CITY2 is back on the road as they face Austin FC II at Parmer Field on Friday, July 11 at 7:30 p.m. CT, in what could become the teamās eighth consecutive win, making MLS NEXT Pro history. The match will be streamed on MLS Season Pass on Apple TV.
CITY2 picked up their seventh consecutive win on Sunday night, defeating Real Monarchs 3-1 and tying the MLS NEXT Pro win streak record, previously held by Columbus Crew 2, Crown Legacy FC, and Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2. It was interim head coach John Hackworthās fifth consecutive win since taking over on June 4.
Brendan McSorley scored CITY2ās first goal of the night early in the 26th minute, but the Monarchs got one back just four minutes later as the teams entered halftime tied 1-1. In the second half, Emil JƤƤskelƤinen reclaimed the lead for CITY2 and then Matteo Kidd secured the three points and win for St Louis, scoring the teamās third goal of the night. Sundayās win put CITY2 in first place in MLS NEXT Proās overall standings with 35 points as the team picked up their 11th win of the season.
McSorley and JƤƤskelƤinen each recorded their fifth goal of the season, and both picked up their fourth assist of the season while Kidd tallied his fourth goal of the season. Two of CITY2ās homegrown players, Tyson Pearce and Mykhi Joyner, earned their first and second assists of the season. There are six players on the roster that have scored two or more goals this season including: Mykhi Joyner, Brendan McSorley, Emil JƤƤskelƤinen, Matteo Kidd, Miguel Perez, and Gabriel Mikina.
St Louis faced Austin FC II back on March 30, earning a 5-4 penalty shootout win at Energizer Park. CITY2 won all three of their meetings against ATX II last season. Austin FC II sit in sixth place in the Western Conference with 24 points and a 5-4-6 record. ATX II enters Friday meeting with a four-match unbeaten streak defeating North Texas SC 2-1, winning a penalty shootout at Portland Timbers2, 1-0 win over Sporting KC II, and an impressive 4-1 win against LAFC 2. At Parmer Field this season, Austin is 3-1-4.
